Sponsors for RCIA

We are seeking sponsors from the parish to accompany those who are preparing for the Sacrament of Baptism, culminating with the celebration of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist in the Easter Vigil, as part of RCIA journey adapted for children.

Sponsors are Catholics who are 16+ who have received the Sacraments of Initiation and are engaged members of our Catholic community and in our missionary life. It’s a wonderful opportunity to live a life in Christ as they accompany these young people (and their parents) on this journey.

The ministry of the sponsor is companionship, encouragement and witness.  The sponsor acts as a bridge between the catechumens and the community, witnessing to the progress and growth of the catechumen and serving as an example of what it means to live a Christian life.  A sponsor is a living witness of the Gospel message – someone who models prayer, love, forgiveness, social justice and hospitality.  They accompany the catechumens on their faith journeys, they share their own faith experience, they introduce them to the life of the parish, they listen and give personal support.

For more questions, please get in touch with the office.
