Becoming Catholic OCIA/RCIA

Thinking of Becoming Catholic?

Do you feel called to be in a relationship with God? Do you desire a faith community to belong to? Perhaps you are married to a Catholic, have Catholic children, and would like to know more about their faith?

Grow Your Faith with the Catholic Church – Join OCIA

We offer opportunities for everyone to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ.

OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, formerly known as RCIA) is a guided journey of faith, supported by our parish community where you will:

  • learn about Catholic beliefs
  • share and reflect with others
  • participate in meaningful rites

Who is OCIA for?

  1. Unbaptised Adults: if you are not yet baptised and are considering joining the Catholic Church, OCIA will prepare you for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist
  2. Baptised Non-Catholic Christians: If you have been baptised in another Christian tradition and wish to become Catholic, OCIA will guide you through the process of receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist
  3. Baptised Catholics: If you have been baptised as a Catholic and not yet received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, OCIA will help you complete your initiation into the Church

For Adults

The OCIA is best described as a journey of faith that passes through several different phases and focuses on conversion of heart and mind to Christ. It is a gradual journey tailored to the needs of the individual.

For Young People (aged 8-16)

The journey towards Christian Initiation for a young person differs from that of an adult. Resources for young people in OCIA have been designed to provide support to parishes and parents in journeying with young people (ages 8 to 16) who wish to explore and develop their faith with a view to receiving the Sacraments of Initiation.

Those Younger than 8

Parents are usually asked to take part in a preparation program with their child to understand the sacraments of initiation and the commitment to living faith. This is our Baptismal Programme separate from OCIA.
